Coming to you on a wet Easter Monday.
We’re deep in our end-of-financial-year planning right now—knee-deep in gathering data from our amazing clients (yes, that probably includes you 😄). It’s always a busy time as we start piecing together all the bits and pieces that make up your year, and juggle scheduling to meet your needs - provisional tax issues, refinancing, AGMs etc.
That said, just a little heads-up: we can’t actually file individual tax returns until late May or early June. That’s not us dragging our feet, promise! The IRD doesn’t open the gates for filing until then. So while we’re doing the groundwork now, there’s a bit of a waiting game before we can download final year end information from them and complete your tax return. In the meantime we are focussing on those company clients who don't need shareholder tax returns.
Our Newsletter Has Made a Comeback 🎉
Big thanks to those of you who nudged us—our newsletter is back by popular demand! We heard you loud and clear. But don’t worry, we’re not about to start spamming your inbox. We’ll keep it light, helpful, and only pop in now and then with genuinely useful info or reminders you’ll actually want to read.
You can expect tips, updates, and a sprinkle of Sprout-style personality, all aimed at keeping your financial life smooth sailing.
A Little Planning Now Saves a Lot of Pain Later
Speaking of smooth sailing… let’s talk tax planning. (We know, it’s not exactly riveting, but hear us out.)
Those who have been with us a while will know that Gillian is all about tax planning. Staying on top of your tax obligations throughout the year is one of the best ways to avoid any unexpected “love letters” from the IRD. Our tax planning service is designed to help you map out your payments, plan ahead, and—most importantly—stick to the plan.
We do these as part of our GST prep process. It’s about being proactive instead of reactive. Because let’s be honest: no one wants a surprise tax bill or to feel like they’re always scrambling to catch up. A little strategy now means fewer headaches later. In the 13 years we have been around, not a single client who stuck to our tax plan has ever got into strife with the IRD, or not had the funds saved to pay when needed. No penalties, no interest, no playing catchup and "robbing Peter to pay Paul". Just a good sound plan to keep you on track. This can be extended further with more detailed cashflow planning. So please, when that email comes in, act on it.
Accounting for Tradies
We have quite a big client base involved in trades and professional services who support our tradies. Having been around trades for over 30 years, Gillian does understand your business, and has seen a few boom and bust cycles in that time. We seem to repeat our messages across multiple clients which has led to us developing an Accounting for Tradies service - which focuses heavily on helping take control of your back office. Whether that's helping you do it through good systems and habits, or getting us to do it. We currently have capacity for a few more of you - whether it's reconciling your xero, sending statement reminders to your customers, through to a full bookkeeping management service. We also love referrals from our current awesome clients - so if you know a tradie who is currently struggling with the numbers, pass on our details. We offer you a referral credit if they sign up with us.
